I wish I could share your optimism. Has this happened to
you before? I have been trying to figure out what to do.
Any help? Yahoo states:

"Last Updated: October 05 2011,
Some users have reported that their contacts received spam that originated from from their Yahoo! email account. This issue has been affecting multiple email providers with the spam containing a URL soliciting prescription medicine. ((((THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME ~ Craven))))

If you've experienced this issue, we strongly believe your account has been compromised and was used by an unauthorized third party to send spam or fraudulent emails to your contact list."

Basically, someone sends a hyperlink to everyone on my
contact list from my addy. The hyperlink looks legit,
then my family and friends click on it, and THEY'RE hosed.
Now THOSE contact list are compromised, and so on and so on.
Is there a somewhat easy fix? Or do I have to cancel my
acct (export and then import all my contacts, let alone
losing ALL my saved sent/received Emails) and start over
with a whole new name or what?? (cuz I like the one I've been used
to for years now)
UHG. Any help from anyone is greatly (grately) appreciated!

Same thing happened to me on two consecutive days a while back. I changed my password and the issue went away. Not sure if that was the fix though.

Thx Germain. That does seem like the immediate, short term fix. And thats what yahoo suggests first off.
But long term... guess we will find out. Thanks again
for your input.

It has not but some folks I know had their facebook accounts hacked. I'll ask them what they did.

Now that I think of it...I did have 2 friends get their yahoo accounts hacked. They ended up getting new e mail addresses. Probably what you don't want to hear but I think that's how they resolved it.

I had a "facebook" email last week from a buddy. The subject line said "find out who's been stalking you."
So of course I'm thinking, what 20 year old hottie wouldn't be stalking me? Me with my 40 year old self, balding, married w/ kids listening to the Dead all the time. You can hardly blame the ladies for being attracted to my raw animal magnetism. Oh yeah, I'm beating all the internet chicks off with a stick.
And then I hit delete.

E-mails claiming to come from Facebook are a common and sometimes virulent spam - be very wary of them.

Hah! You and me both brother. Sounds like I just found my twin. Only one thing left to do... we can share the women, we can share the wine.

I also seem to have quite a few extremly wealthy relatives that I've never heard of living in Europe. The fact that they all want to leave me millions isn't as alarming as the fact that they are all dying at a very fast rate.
And they've never even invited me to the chalet.

Your Euro family must know my banking friend in Nigeria. He's in a bad way with his hut being so small and not being able to keep his millions of dollars there. I really should help him out and send him my bank routing number and details so he has somewhere to put it.

And if you need a couple extra inches, I got an email that will help you out. Trouble is, I'd rather gain a couple vertically so I could finally dunk the ball. Let me know if you can hook me up with one of those magic supplements.

Reminds me of my Grandmother. She was a very proper lady from Scotland. Was an English teacher her whole life, and it didn't stop when she retired. She'd write to me and return my previous letter which would be corrected for punctuation, spelling, grammar, etc.

FYI y'all, in the last 3 months I've received 2 different emails from "Paypal" saying there was a problem with my account. Contacted Paypal both times and learned they were fraudulent. They both looked real official except perhaps for a few too many links to click on to "solve" the problem. Just wanted to share that, "Beware, Brother, Beware".

I get that every now and then. What they are trying to get you to to do is to to log in to your account on a spoofed page. PayPal NEVER EVER asks anyone to do this. They don't even let their people get this info over the phone if you call them. The scammers like to use a current PayPal web page for their crime. The easy giveaway in the grammar and syntax errors on the spoofed email.

Of course, I realize it was a joke, but I still don't think my Grandma was joking around.
